About
An accidental bird lover…
Most people I know didn’t plan on becoming bird lovers – it just sort of crept up on them. That was definitely the case for me. When I was younger, I was never overly interested in birds unless they were especially unique to me e.g. the toucan, or maybe a quetzal. I just didn’t get the fascination.
Fast forward to when I was on an African safari in 2017. I still remember the day that I suddenly switched from only looking for the big animals and cats to suddenly being on the lookout for different birds. I told myself it’s because the birds were bright and colourful (like the bee-eater).I told myself I liked those birds and not the boring brown ones. Well haven’t times changed!
For the longest time, I was “in denial” about my love of birds, thinking it was just a casual appreciation.
But as it turns out, I quickly became known as the “bird friend,” with people regularly sending me photos and audio clips to help identify different species. The thing is, I’m not a twitcher (a hardcore birdwatcher, for those unfamiliar). My knowledge is very general, but that’s okay – everyone starts somewhere, right?
This blog is my way of documenting the birds I’ve seen and the ones I hope to see. It’s a place for me to learn, share, and hopefully help others to grow their bird knowledge along the way.
So here’s to embracing a love for birds, one sighting at a time… even if I’m still not a twitcher.
